Book Marketing Made Easy: If You Write it, They Will Come

Here’s a big fear we all have when it comes to writing a book: What if no one buys it?
While that is always possible, with a little planning and advanced buzz, it’s highly unlikely. The key is to get others excited about your book, and to get them talking and sharing the news with their friends.
Host a Launch Party. Weeks before your official publication date, it’s time to start revving up the launch engine. Offering bonuses for early purchases, incentives for a review, and free chapter downloads are all proven strategies for building the buzz for your upcoming book.
There’s a lot of moving parts in a successful book launch—landing pages, mailing lists, JV partners, social outreach, and more—so if you need help with the plan, pick up this step-by-step book launch planner from my blog PamPerryPR.com/blog.
Make the Interview Rounds. Two to three months prior to your book release, have your virtual assistant begin researching podcasts, blogs and other media outlets for potential interviews. Create a press package to send out, including headshots, book cover art, blurbs and testimonials, and let everyone know that you’re looking for interviews and guest posting opportunities. I love podcasts! Check out #ignite2impact.
Blog About It. You are your own best publicist; so don’t be afraid to toot your own horn on your blog, in your email newsletter, and on social media. Include images of the cover, blurbs from advance readers, and give your audience plenty of time to get excited about the upcoming launch, so when the buy button finally goes up they’re eager to get a copy.
Boosted Posts. Facebook is a terrific way to get new eyes on your book. Paid ads leading to your launch page are ideal, and can generate a lot of traffic for a very low cost.
Free Kindle Days. This technique alone can catapult your book to bestsellerdom in a matter of days. The key is to build up a buzz on your mailing list, share, share, share on social media, and ask your friends and colleagues to do the same.
Book marketing isn’t as easy as simply listing it on Amazon and becoming an instant bestseller. Anyone who tells you that is the exception to the rule. But that doesn’t mean selling your book is impossible either. With some strategic planning and a little effort, you can have a fantastic launch, whether it’s your first book or your fourteenth.

Crush It: You Are Your Brand, Own Up to Your Story

pam perry

Here’s secret successful marketers know: customers don’t buy a product. They buy you.
Your personality.
Your experience.
The unique qualities only you possess.
There was a time when “branding” meant a corporate-looking logo and a slick catalog, but in today’s online marketplace, the real value is not in appearing to be a big company, but rather in just being you. And your personality shines through in a variety of ways.

Your Authentic Voice

How you speak and write and even how you act on camera or in an audio interview has the power to instantly identify you to your audience. You can see this in action if you scroll through your Facebook feed. It’s easy to know who has posted a particular image or status update, just by recognizing the voice with which they generally speak.
Here’s an even more important aspect of your “voice” though: it has the power to attract a specific audience. In recent years, a few high profile coaches and product sellers have become celebrities of a sort, largely because of their harsh, “don’t hold back” language.
Gary Vaynerchuk (Gary Vee) over at www.Crushitbook.com makes no apologies for his offensive words, and his fans love him for it. And those that don’t? Well, he could care less. And he has made a name for himself as  is a New York Times and Wall Street Journal Best-Selling author. People call him the BRANDING/SOCIAL MEDIA GENUS. See video below…and his clients are Fortune 500 companies like General Electric, Budweiser, Toyota, Revlon and Unilever.

The “shock factor” rude and foul language is not the only way to go to cut through clutter. Carrie Wilkerson has built her brand almost entirely on her ability to be kind and generous. She always has a nice word, never appears defeated or overwhelmed and is an inspiration to her fans and clients.  A former client of Ministry Marketing Solutions, TD Jakes is a powerful preaching machine and has built a MEGA brand around “Woman Thou Art Loosed.”
While very different in their approach, these people all have one thing in common: authenticity. It’s clear that if you were to meet either of them in person, they would speak and act exactly as they do online. And their brands are stronger for it.

Your Story

How did you get to where you are today? The backstory—which to you might seem boring and uneventful—is a powerful tool that can help solidify your brand and attract just the right audience.
Dr. Missy Johnson, who is in my mentoring program, tells of her growing up, being kicked out of the house by her mom, becoming homeless, attempted suicide – in and out of mental hospitals and dating dope dealers. She went from broke, broken and bankrupt all the way around – mentally, spiritually and financially. But her story continues as she graduated Summa Cum Laude from college, got married, has a great career, an honorary doctorate and helping women become whole and FEARLESS. Her success is an inspiration to her audience, and is a huge part of her branding.ty adams
Another client Ty Adams, talks about being a Christian and her struggle with sex. She is a single mom and her “test” became her testimony and birthed her best-selling book, “Single, Saved and Having Sex.” She is now a full-time evangelist and has spoken on stages with Juanita Bynum and TD Jakes to the late Dr. Myles Monroe, who became her personal mentor.  Her platform and brand is all about celibacy before marriage and shows women how to wait on God for their mate.

Your story doesn’t have to be dramatic, and you certainly don’t have to share more than you’re comfortable with, but it does have to be yours. Be your true self, and you’ll never have to worry about attracting the right audience. They will self-select, and your perfect client will find you.

How to Hire a Publicist For Your Book

Here's your chance to get national publicity.

If you ever wanted to be interviewed on top TV shows like CNN, ABC's The View, The Real, and the Today Show - here's your opportunity to learn the insider secrets and meet the producers face to face.

Don't miss your opportunity to get written up in major national publications like Health, Time, Family Circle, O the Oprah Magazine, Entrepreneur, People, INC., Parents or the New York Times!

So, because I'm your PR Coach,  I'm writing about a unique chance to get more publicity in America's biggest media outlets by attending Steve Harrison's National Publicity Summit, April 26-29, 2017 in New York City, a one-of-a-kind conference where you'll get to personally meet more than 100 top journalists and producers and pitch your story to them, one-on-one and face-to-face.

To ensure everyone gets enough one-on-one time with the media, Steve is only admitting 100 attendees. Right now, only 28 seats for the Summit remain and all discounts vanish after this Friday, April 7th, so go here now for the details or risk missing out:

http://bit.ly/pamperry2017nps

All the above media were represented at previous Summits and Steve expects most to return, along with journalists and producers from many other top national TV shows, radio programs and big-time print media.

Having a face-to-face meeting with an editor or producer dramatically increases the chances they'll write about you -- or put you on their show.

When you grab your info packet, you'll see some of the results Steve's previous Summit attendees have gotten including how:

Ron & Lisa Beres were booked on the Today Show.

Steve Shapiro was the subject of a big story in "O the Oprah Magazine" after meeting the writer at my Summit.

Lauri Loewenberg appeared on both ABC's The View and Good Morning America.

Jim Vonmier got on the CBS Evening News and Early Show as a result of the training and contacts we gave him.

Kelly McCloskey used what she learned to get booked on Oprah.

Barry Spilchuk was interviewed on Fox News Channel within just five hours of meeting the producer at the Summit!

and many, many others!

Again, only 100 attendees will be admitted, and only 28 spots are left.

The deadline is approaching fast -- 6:00 pm Eastern this Friday, April 7th -- so if you're interested in attending go here now:

5 Things Every Author Site Must Do

    PR Coaching

In working with hundreds of Christian authors over the last 17 years, I’ve seen  a lot of the changes in the marketing and promotions of books.  There was a time when authors relied only on publicity to get sales. Imagine that.
Today, the current marketing tool every author must have is a website.

Here I will go over what every author site – especially a nonfiction author site – must have in order to have success in the publishing (and speaking industry).

    1. SELL. Yes, a lot of Christian writers say that they are “writing for the Lord” but once you’re published it’s now time to market. Books sales are the barometer of whether your book is good. And if you sell a lot of books, you can influence a lot more people for God.  Your website is your 24/7 marketing machine that should sell books for you. Think of your site as the hub of all your branding efforts.  Don’t be “cheap” with building your site.  Go to FIVERR for simple stuff not WEBSITES! It’s too important. It’s the first impression readers get of you, the author. Your website is your “store front” to the world,  it’s the place where you connect with the masses and you are representing the King of Kings. So, represent well and this will inspire readers to buy your book. web development goalsweb development goals web development goals
    2. BUILD A TRIBE. If you don’t have anything else on your site, have an opt-in box.  This is how you build an email list and stay connected with those who are interested in your work.  By building an email list, you can send out eNewsletters, blog posts, your itinerary of speaking engagements or just send out information that you know will bless them.  I talk about an opt-in box and email list all the time. The gold is in the list. If you have 200 or 300 people who have raised their hand and said, “yes, let’s keep in touch,” via your opt-in box – you’re on your way to be thought leader.  BUT  the key is using the right tools.… I recommend AweberActive Campaign or MailChimp. The point is to have a your email subscriber confirm, you send them a free gift and you follow up with auto-responder messages that they’d expect from you. I’ve used Constant Contact in the past – that’s old school. Time to step up.
Brian Solis blogs and “engages” in social media with GOOD content like a mad man. That’s why his books are best sellers.
    3. GIVE GOOD CONTENT. Since you published a book, you are now positioned as an AUTHORity.  Keeping your content fresh and engaging with your tribe is a way to get them to recommend your book to others and possibly snag some speaking gigs.  Besides, when you publish good content on your site regularly, you become Googlicious.  And we all want to be loved and found on  Page 1 of Google.  Good content equals a lot of website traffic and traffic will convert to sales. A good blog post could land you on a TV or Radio Show too – so blog consistently on your area of expertise if you want to have success in the industry.
    4. BUILD YOUR BRAND AND BUILD BUZZYour author website is a way for you to shine online.  You are the brand. Your site should help you go “viral.”  Of course social media is a great branding and buzz builder tool, but your website is your special place to show the world how anointed and awesome you are.  You can post videos on your site or have your site so rich in content that it cannot be overlooked by readers, the media and even competitors.  Your site is your newspaper, magazine, radio and TV.  You are the director; your write the script. Social media is a way to get traffic to your site – but social media is not the “magic bullet.”  Your website is where you put in the time – not on Facebook.
    5. GET BOOKED. You wrote a book. It’s your message to the world.  You want media to know about you and you want to get booked to speak about your book and this sells more books. Yes! So make it easy to get booked. Have an awesome Media page on your website with a great EPK, speaker one sheet or speaker profile (in a pdf) and finally have a great SIZZLE REEL with you in action and/or a book trailer.  Have a booking form on your site that is simple for people to reach you. (see mine on this site) These tools on your website will get your booked and have you living your dream.
    speaker pam perry
In my next post, I’ll outline WHAT every author website navigation should look like.
Question: If you’ve published a book, what was the one thing YOU could tell a new author about online marketing and websites – and budgets? I love to start a dialog!
